Storm preparedness

Hurricane season and your Florida boat policy

Many Florida boat policies include named storm provisions, such as a separate deductible, restrictions on where the boat is kept, or steps you must take when a storm is forecast. Read them before June, not after a storm is named.

Check these in your policy

  • Named storm deductible or limits
  • Required haul-out or tie-down steps
  • Coverage for storm-related wreck removal
  • Any change in coverage when a storm warning is issued

Before a storm

Photograph the boat and equipment, keep documents in a safe place, and know your marina's storm plan. This is general guidance, not a promise of coverage.

Coverage depends on the policy, the insurance company and underwriting approval.

Common questions

Does boat insurance cover hurricane damage?

Often yes, subject to policy terms, but with conditions. Ask for the named storm terms in writing.
